Snowshoeing

Pure joy: Snowshoe hikes on your winter holiday in Austria

Snowshoeing in Salzburg's Grossarl Valley

The hiking trails to Grossarl’s chalets are covered each winter in a thick blanket of snow — perfect for snowshoeing in the Salzburg Alps! Whether you choose to take a snowshoe hike in the valley or the mountains, Grossarl’s dreamy winter wonderland will treat you to many moments of pure joy. Join a park ranger on a guided snowshoe hike through the Hohe Tauern National Park every Tuesday and Thursday — and don’t worry if you don’t have your own snowshoes, you can hire them when you get here.

In the past, snowshoeing was the only way to get around the area in winter. Today, it is a wonderful winter sport for nature lovers and hikers. You do need a little stamina for snowshoeing in the Salzburg Alps, especially when going uphill. However, prior experience is not required — simply slip your feet into your snowshoes, strap them on and get going.

Would you like to take a guided snowshoe hike? Sign up for a guided snowshoeing tour through Salzburg’s Grossarl Valley. Let our reception team know you’re interested and we’ll take care of the rest.
